The Theatre of the Grancia  back in all its splendour.  With an artwork
by Giulia Maestrini
The little theatre of the Grancia, Tuscany’s smallest theatre, on Saturday at 4.pm will, after restoration, be  back in all its splendour. The foyer will be enhanced by “Theatrical Representation”, the outstanding artwork  by Sienese artist Franca Marini, born in 1962, graduate of the “Duccio di Buoninsegna”, where she currently teaches painting, and trained in the metropolises of the whole world. This is a particularly successful moment for Marini: besides the event in Montisi, a larger version of her sculpture “Birth with Color” will soon furnish Piazza d’Armi, in Siena. Franca Marini has recently returned from Costa Rica where she exhibited at the Galería Nacional in San José. “A wonderful experience: we found unlimited willingness to help and full co-operation from everyone, from the Director, Dunia Molina, to the all the Museum staff. I worked at “Reconstruction in red” for two days and two nights on the floor: the moment when we raised the artwork up was a huge emotion”. As a matter of fact, “Reconstruction in red” – the fulcrum of the exhibition - was created directly in loco: “Because of customs complications, I could not have sent it, so I had to construct it over there with velvet paper and geographical maps sewn together with woollen threads: my love for travel and exploration, the bonds between past and present”. The exhibition, curated by Rolando Castellón with the collaboration of the chair of the University of Siena of Prof. Crispolti –two students, Silvia Bandini and Esther Biancotti, wrote the critical essay for the catalogue and curated the installation work for the show-, was a success: the Ambassador in Costa Rica, Gioacchino Trizzino, suggested placing one of the artworks in the Museum of Italian Art.
